Deep within the Bitterroot Valley of Montana sits 38,000 acre Lake Como. During the harsh winter months, it's typical for the surface to be completely covered with snow. In fact, of the many times I visited this location I have never before (or since) witnessed the beauty that I was able to capture on this day. Standing on the banks of the lake, the surface seemed monotone and lifeless. Truth be told, I was so unimpressed that I almost didn't fly! I'm so thankful I did because once I took the skies my mind was blown. The lake was in the early stages of freezing for the season and had not yet been hidden by a blanket of snow. What I discovered were hundreds unique frozen fractals and ice boulders spanning the entire lake surface! It wasn't until later on that I realized that these patterns were as unique as fingerprints and will never be reproduced in the same way again.
