About 'Mission Mountains - 47°25'42.643" N 114°7'0.673" W'
Many of my adventures in Montana took place along route US-93, which heads north out of Missoula. A short 45 minute drive will bring you right to the base of the Mission Mountains. As you approach over the foothills, they seem to rise up out of the ground until they completely overwhelm the scene. The sight is truly awe-inspiring. These mountains can be fickle, however, often times hiding behind a thick fog that can completely camouflage them into the sky. Many times I have driven this route without spotting a single peak. On this day the Missions were out in full force to dominate the landscape, making the drive worth every mile.
